Vicki's Recipe (below)
- Hello to all of you cherry kugal fans out there. Imade it last night (after 35 ++ years of missing this dish) and it turned out really good. Wanted to share with you all.
- Make your favorite basic white bread recipe.
- The one I used made two loaves.
- I used 1/2 for cherry kugal in 9x13 pan and the other 1/2 for a loaf of bread.
- After you punch it down, divide in half. Place 1/2 in greased 9x13 pan.
- Mix together 2 eggs, 1/2 cup flour, 1/2 cup sugar and 1 tbsp. 1/2 & 1/2 (or cream or milk, whatever you have).
- Mine came out more like the texture of icing for a cake.
- Spead this on top of your dough.
- Next sprinkle on about 3 cups of cherries. I bet it would taste great with blueberries or any berries.
- Mix together 2/3 cups butter (softened), 1 cup sugar and 1 1/2 cups flour. Add 1 tsp cinnamon. This is like the crumb mixture you put on top of apple pie.
- Spread on top of the cherries.
- Place dish in warm spot, no drafts and let rise 1 hour.
- Then bake at 400 for 30 minutes. I baked mine at 375 for 35 minutes. Yummmmmm!
Love, Vicki
