Apple Dumplings

Syrup Ingredients

Heat sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg and water to boiling.  Remove from heat; stir in butter until melted.

Preparation

Heat oven to 375 degrees.  Mix flour, Baking Powder and salt.  Cut in shortening.  Stir in milk until all flour is moistened.  Gather pastry into ball.  Roll out and cut into squares.  

Place 4 apple quarters on each pastry square.  Sprinkle each with 1 T sugar, the cinnamon and nutmeg.  Bring corners of pastry up over apple and press together.  Place dumplings in un-greased baking pan, 13x9x2 inches.  Pour Syrup over dumplings.

Bake until crust is golden and apples are tender, about 45 minutes.  Spoon syrup over dumplings.  Serve warm with cream.
