2 1/2 C | flour |
1/2 t | salt |
2 C | sugar |
2/3 C | shortening |
2 t | powder |
1/2 t | soda |
1/2 t | cinnamon |
1/2 t | nutmeg |
1 C | sour milk (buttermild) |
2 | eggs (beaten) |
Combine flour, salt, sugar, and shortening.
Reserve 1/2 C to sprinkle over batter.
To remaining crumbs, add baking powder, soda and spices. Mix thoroughly.
Add milk and eggs. Mix well.
Pour into 2 waxed 8x8x2 baking pans. Sprinkle with reserved crumbs. Chopped nuts and cinnamon may be sprinkled over crumbs. (Mix with reserve)
Bake at 375 degrees for 25 - 30 min.
