Heirloom Bread

Ingredients

4 C flour
2 t baking powder
1 1/2 t soda
2 t salt
2 t cinnamon
1/2 t nutmeg
1/2 t cloves 
2/3 C chopped nuts
2 C sugar
1 C shortening
4 eggs
1/2 t lemon extract
1 t vanilla
2 C canned applesauce
1/2 C raisins
1 C candied fruit

Preparation

  1. Combine and sift dry ingredients.

  2. Cream sugar and shortening until fluffy.

  3. Beat in eggs, flavoring and applesauce.

  4. Add liquid mixture to dry mixture.

  5. Blend until smooth. Stir in nuts and fruit.

  6. Bake in 350 degree oven 55 - 60 min or less in small pans.

  7. Cool at least 4 hours before slicing.
