Preparation
- Chop chocolate into little pieces
(food processor works great because the smaller the pieces the quicker the chocolate will melt when you add the heat)
- Combine
chocolate pieces, flour, sugar, milk and salt.
- Cook
and stir the mixture over medium heat until it boils.
- Beat the egg yolks in a little bowl, while the chocolate mixture is heating up.
- Cook
the chocolate mixture two minutes after it starts boiling.
- In order to prevent chucks of cooked egg in the pudding, stir one tablespoon at a time of the chocolate mixture into the little bowl of beaten egg yolks. (do this with 3 or 4 tablespoons of chocolate mixture)
- Now, add the the egg & chocolate back into the chocolate mixture that is cooking
- Cook
and stir an additional two minutes more.
- Remove
from heat and add butter and vanilla.
- Sprinkle chopped walnuts in the bottom of the pie crust (optional)
- Cool
and pour into baked pie shell
-
Add
meringue and bake
